All You Ever Wanted to Know About Insurance

Houston Flood Insurance

If you are in Houston or the surrounding areas (Sugar Land, The Woodlands, League City, Pearland, Katy) you know that Flood Insurance is critical where we live.

In 2001, Tropical Storm Allison dumped 7 inches of rain in 5 hours, and resulted in being one of the costliest disasters ever in Houston. Many residents were without Flood Insurance and assumed they were in areas that did not Flood.

In 2016, residents around Fort Bend county experienced Flooding that hasn't been seen in 60 years. Many were without Flood Insurance.

A preferred Flood Insurance policy typically cost around $400 and is not included with the Home Insurance policy.

Hurricane season starts June first, are you ready?

Flashlight… check, Batteries… check, Food & water… check, Flood insurance? ...Now’s a good time to check!

Hurricane season runs June 1 through Nov. 30. “During hurricane season, Texas residents are at risk,” said Federal Coordinating Officer William J. Doran III, who is in charge of FEMA’s operations in Texas. “A policy with the NFIP is one of the best ways to supplement federal assistance and protect your home.”

Although many home insurance policies will cover water damage from burst pipes, appliances, etc., flood damage (rising water from outside the home) is never covered.

And- Unless a flood policy is purchased at the time of a new loan, it takes 30 days for a new flood policy to go into effect.

Also available are Private Flood Insurance policies that can be much less than your FEMA or National Flood Insurance policies. We run the quote through both to see which one will come out less.
