All You Ever Wanted to Know About Insurance

Flood Insurance

If you've lived in the Houston area, you know that it can Flood in certain areas of Houston quickly.   With Hurricane season here, 3-5 inches of rain can wreak havoc.   Water can rise in Flood prone areas within minutes.   It's a fact that Flooding is the nations most prevalent natural disaster and also the most costly.   What many people do not realize is that Home and Renters insurance does not cover Flood (Rising Water) damage.

How can I buy Flood Insurance?

You can purchase Flood Insurance through a local Independent Agent.  Just remember that it could possibly take 30 days to go into effect unless it's a closing, rollover, or written through a Private Flood Insurance carrier.

Am I in a Preferred Flood Insurance area (Zone X) or a High Risk Area?

Your Agent can run a quick Flood Zone determination to see which zone you are in.   If you are in a Preferred Zone (the lower risk zones) you could pay much less for Flood Insurance and it will also NOT be required by your mortgage company.   High Risk areas generally require having an Elevation Certificate done on your Home from a licensed company.
